Spring is finally here, and with it comes a sense of renewal. It’s a time to reset, to look ahead, and focus on what matters most in our communities and in our lives.
This year’s budget has not been an easy one. There were difficult decisions that had to be made, and I know many of you felt the impact of those choices. I want to say clearly that I do not take that lightly. The messages, calls, and conversations I had with so many of you mattered. I am proud of everyone who took the time to reach out, share your experiences, and speak up.
Because of that feedback, adjustments were made and proposed reductions that would have affected Mi’kmaw communities, African Nova Scotian communities, disability support, and seniors were revisited. Ensuring support for vulnerable and underrepresented communities remains an important priority.
That said, I know there are still impacts. These are not easy times, and we are not alone in facing them. Provinces across the country are dealing with the same financial pressures, and the focus has to remain on protecting core services while continuing to support people as best we can.
Please know this. I am always here to listen, to advocate, and to support you. Every day I wake up thinking about what is best for this community and how I can do my part to help achieve it.
